March Madness and Easter Sunday

So, we were pretty busy in March, mainly because of work but enjoyed a little bit of playtime here and there (see Dine in Brooklyn and A Place At The Table posts). We skipped celebrating St. Patrick's Day though, so how much fun could we really be?

In some wedding planning success we have booked a florist, Flowers By Liz, located in Sayville, after a fifth (that's right FIVE florists appointments!!!!!) with Bella Flowers in Huntington. Picking a florist was one of the hardest decisions we have made! Flowers are not cheap and each florists we met with had different ideas and varying costs, making our decision difficult. We're happy with our choice though and look forward to doing a sample appointment later this spring and seeing the end result in July!

I did hair and make-up consultations in March as well, nailing down a few more components of the "wedding look," I also popped in to try on my wedding dress now; alterations will begin in May. We also selected the bow ties Jared and all of the fellas will wear. We did a few practice tying rounds too. Full disclosure, it wasn't easy, but we'll keep practicing. It will be worth it; I think they'll be a nice touch when everything is said and done.

I'm also pleased to share that after writing a special letter to Father Edward Kealy (the former pastor of St. Sylvester's Parish) he agreed to return to say our mass. In turn we have spoken to family members about participating in the ceremony and have selected our readings and all the other mass elements.

That is where our March wedding progress ends, hand in hand with the end of the month. We spent Easter weekend between Long Island and Brooklyn. Jared had an appointment on Long Island on Saturday, and afterwards we met Bob and Tim at John Harvard's for lunch. Jared returned to Brooklyn later that night with Tim, where they met up with Greg at Mission Dolores. I stayed behind on LI, had dinner with my family then headed to The Bellport later that evening for drinks (White Russians and wine) with Pattie, Katie D., Lisa and Chris.

On Sunday the Menghini Five headed to St. Sylvester's to celebrate (and stand through a very packed) Easter mass. Jared came back out for dinner, and we were joined by the Gillece's and Aunt Rita. We enjoyed a great dinner (ham and lamb, lots of veggies, some nice wine) and a great selection of desserts. Kudos to Pattie and Liv baking a great peanut butter pie and cheesecake, respectively.
