Today, on the final day of February, after a busy month of wedding planning, Jared and I had made two decisions, bringing our grand total to......three. Not terrible, but not super successful either. We spent a lot of time e-mailing and calling vendors and taking meetings, but are still waiting on quotes and a few scheduled appointments. A good analogy for this process is when your car is stuck in a snow bank, and you are trying your damnedest to get it out, but the wheels just spin. Either way our completed list now includes:
- Transportation. We've booked two limos for our wedding party and ourselves with Dynasty Limo, from Babylon. Ellen, who we met with at our appointment, was very helpful and extremely patient as we worked out scheduling kinks.
- Cake. We weren't wowed with the wedding cake during our tasting at the Woodlands, and since we have the option of bringing wedding cake in, we've opted to do that. After lots of e-mails and calls we made two appointments. The first was at La Bonne Boulangerie in Port Jefferson. While the gentleman we met with was knowledgeable, and the cake we described affordable, we didn't love his sales pitch (looking to seal the deal too much) or that we didn't get to try any cake. My mom had bought cakes there in the past, which was part of the reason I decided to make an appointment, but we were looking forward to tasting lots of cake! The second was at Audrey's in West Sayville. Again, no tasting, but the woman we met with was nice and accommodating to our ideas. Plus, our engagement party cake was from Audrey's and was yummy, and both my mom and Jared's mom have used Audrey's in the past, and have good things to say about it. So we've moved forward with Audrey's, and we're looking forward to seeing our ideas brought to life.
- Guestbook. Jared had a few opinions on this, which knocked some of my original ideas out of the running, but I found a new idea that I like and that he's okay with. I know that sounds very vague, but some things need to be a surprise, so stay tuned to 7/5!
Some wheel spinning was around florist appointments. We met with florists at Flowers By Brian, The Bayport-Flower House, Flowers By Liz, and East Williston Florist and Greenhouse. We still haven't made our decision, but hope to after our fifth (FIFTH!) appointment this Saturday. Other wheel spinning was around ordering bowties for the guys. We found one that was perfect on Etsy, but the gal never replied to our messages, so we are back to square one. We met with the new banquet manager at the Woodlands and began to finalize our menu. We still need to figure out a third cocktail to be passed around during the cocktail hour, but we're more or less finished with that until June. We also did a couple of rounds of editing/changes on our invitations and are looking forward to seeing the final result soon. Finally, I am happy to report that both mothers have their dresses.
In other February news we were happy to catch up with our friends last weekend on Long Island, including Bob, the Mirabelli brothers Phil and Rob, and Lisa and Chris over beers at the Tap Room. And in one week I had two brushes with the law. The first, getting a ticket about a half mile from our apartment for a headlight being out, which should be dropped because we promptly fixed it. The second was jury duty, at which I sat in the pool room for seven hours (reading, napping, watching Pope Benedict resign) without being called until the end of the day when I was dismissed. I don't qualify to be a juror again for eight years. Super depressing, but on to March!
