My favorite time of year to drink beer is in the fall. I love loove looove pumpkin beer. I look forward to it each September, like so many others who enjoy all things pumpkin. It's not only a pumpkin beer fascination, it's really a fascination with pumpkin of all shapes and sizes: ravioli, muffins, Starbucks' Pumpkin Spice Latee, pie, bisque, and so much more. Jared doesn't go quite as crazy as I do, trying everything pumpkin offered throughout the fall, but we come down on the same side of the pumpkin beer debate: the more the better!
So this year we made a concerted effort to try as many pumpkin beers as possible, and did fairly well. The biggest disappointment in The Great Pumpkin Beer Taste of 2012 has been not getting any of John Harvard's Pumpkin Spice, which is probably the best, but hopefully we'll be able to rectify that with a trip to Long Island. Listed below are the beers we've tried so far - we still have November to get through - in order of which ones I thought were the best. Jared would probably rank them differently.
- Sam Adams' Harvest Pumpkin Ale
- Blue Point Brewery's Pumpkin Ale
- Dogfish Head's 'PUNK' Pumpkin Ale
- Post Road Pumpkin Ale by the Brooklyn Brewery
- Brickhouse Brewery's The Great Pumpkin
- Smuttynose Brewing Co.'s Pumpkin Ale
- Elysian Night Owl Pumpkin Ale
I'll be sure to add any new ones we try over the next month.
